How to Analyze

After the optimization process is complete, the simplest way to interpret the consolidated results of the forest estate model is via Software Interfaces the built in charting tool.

Wood Flow Chart

Click Charting/Wood Flows to open the standard wood flow analysis chart.

Chart Legend Selection

The standard wood flow chart enables visualization of the optimization solution. The wood flow chart consists of a series of drop-down lists and selection options on the left-hand-side of the interface window. These are used to refine the chart that is rendered on the right-hand-side.

The simplest selection to change and examine is the 'Chart Legend' as shown below. Click the drop-down option for the Chart Legend selector and choose a group to define the basis of the chart. The wood flow chart will be rendered using the new group selection.

Graphical Filtering

There are a series of predefined selection filters that will be populated with the forest description's Destination, Origin, Species and Product data. Choosing entries from within these selectors will render the wood flow chart showing only the consolidated information that is relevant for the values selected. These selectors filter the plunits that are consolidated to render the wood flow chart.

It is possible to select more than one value in each selector by holding down the CTRL key when making a selection. Likewise, selections can be deselected by holding down the CTRL key and deselecting the value.

Viewing Tabular Data

The tabular values behind a wood flow chart can be quickly accessed by right-clicking the chart area to show the context menu. From this menu select the View Data option to render the data in a data-grid. Note that the Copy Chart option will copy the chart image to the clipboard for pasting into an email or a document as may be needed.

The data that are presented in the data-grid when View Data is selected are only those data that were rendered on the chart. That is, the data in the data-grid will be subject to the same filters and selectors as were applied to render the chart prior to viewing the data-grid

An example of the data-grid for the chart as previously filtered is shown below.

It is possible to copy the data within the data-grid to the clipboard, and then paste the data into a Microsoft Excel worksheet.

To do this click the top left-hand-side cell to the left of the column called Period to select all the cells in the data-grid. Then right click and select Copy Data from the context menu. Open a workbook and then paste the contents of the clipboard onto a worksheet.
